The Toyota Sera debuted in 1987 as a concept car with a glass roof canopy and doors. These bold design elements were approved for production in 1990, keeping its most notable features such as its butterfly doors that opened along pillar that held the windshield, and a rear hatch constructed from a single piece of glass.
